The Nyumbani Village: Kenya Project was prototypical community design sponsored by the United Nations, Kenyan Government agencies, and local Non-Governmental Organizations that aimed to address the complex needs of the elders and orphans left behind by the Kenyan AIDS epidemic. The goals of the Nyumbani Village design include the fostering of community and the integration of nature into the village environment. The concept of the weave became a metaphoric, as well as formal way to connect the two. The village physically and conceptually weaves nature with the built systems, and weaves the family structure into the village as a whole.
